| Classic's Question of the Month How do I open my pool for the season? |
| STEP ONE Clean and store the cover, then inspect the pool. If you use a solid pool cover, first drain off any standing water so that it doesn't spill back into the pool. Carefully remove the cover, sweep it and lay it out to dry. Hose the cover down and clean with a cover cleaner. Once it is thoroughly dry, fold and store the cover in a clean dry place, out of sunlight. Inspect the entire pool carefully for damage that may have taken place during the off-season, especially leaks or tears in the vinyl liner, or breaks and cracks in the plaster or tiles. After inspection, add water until the level reaches about halfway up the skimmer opening. Remove any debris with a leaf net. |
STEP TWO Check equipment and perform housekeeping chores. Make sure your pump, skimmer, and filter are working properly. If the filter was not chemically cleaned at the end of last season- clean it using a filter cleaner, to remove hardened deposits that can hamper filter performance. Run the pump while you vacuum and brush the pool throughly. |
| STEP THREE Take a sample of pool water to Classic Pool and Spa for laboratory analysis. After running the pump for at least 5 hours, bring in a quart of pool water in a clean plastic containerfor a comprehensive laboratory analysis. We will provide easy instructions for making the necessary adjustments to your pool's water balance. |
| STEP FOUR Balance & Sanitize. Follow our recommendations for balancing pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid. Top off your sanitizer following manufacturer's instructions. Maintain your sanitizer at manufacturer's suggested level. Check your pool water at least once a week, or better yet, bring in a sample and let us test it for free! |
